Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo

After completing the visa formalities, you will be picked up by one of our guides or by us directly at the airport. Day 2: Antananarivo to Andasibe

Early in the morning you will drive east on the winding RN 2. On the way you will have the opportunity to visit the famous private reserve "Madagascar Exotique" of the famous explorer Andre Pereyras, where an unimagined variety of reptiles, amphibians and - in a nearby forest area - lemurs pose without shyness in front of the camera. Moramanga is the next stop before heading to the nearby Analamazoatra area. Near the national park of Andasibe you will take up quarters and already have the opportunity to listen to the singing cries of the Indri-Indris, which often come right into the hotel complex. Night walks in the rainforest are possible from the lodge.

Day 3: Andasibe / Mitsinjo

Today, after breakfast, you will visit the Mitsinjo Reserve. During the hike of several hours you will see Indri Indris and other highly rare animals and plant species. After returning to the hotel in the late morning, we will go to the "Vakona Zoo": on the famous lemur island, which is approached by boat, numerous lemurs cavort, which were once taken from illegal captivity and "reintroduced" here. However, the animals have lost all shyness and literally jump on the visitors' noses, so washable rainwear is highly recommended. The nearby forest is home to a large number of crocodiles, the rare "fossa" and other zoological features of Madagascar and can be easily explored on a 1-2 hour walk. Night walks in the rainforest are possible from the lodge.

Day 4: Via Antananarivo to Antsirabe

Very poor infrastructure between Andasibe and the suburbs of Antananarivo, then another 3 to 4 hours drive, arriving in Antsirabe in the afternoon.

Founded in the 19th century by Norwegian missionaries, Antsirabe appears much more "European" than other towns in Madagascar, as evidenced by the magnificent colonial villas and the regular buildings.

In the garden of the hotel there are countless chameleons all hiding in the trees and some ray turtles that can often be seen on a small island in the middle of the lake.

Day - 5 Antsirabe and surroundings

Antsirabe is the highest town in the country, this former health resort is located at an altitude of about 1600m. There are very beautiful lakes of volcanic origin and countless hiking opportunities, bicycle tours are also possible and are organized on request. After breakfast we will drive west to Betafo. Close to the village are not only the two famous volcanic lakes Lac Tritriva and, which we will not visit, but we also start here for a 2-hour hike through the fertile fields of the area and enjoy the unique mountain panorama of the surroundings. At the enchanted waterfall of Antafofo intrepid have opportunities for a refreshing swim.

Today we will also visit the city, the huge market is especially busy on Saturday, but it is also worth a visit on all other days of the week.

This famous spa town, with its wide avenues, cannot be compared to any other town in Madagascar. From the train station, in pure colonial style, the avenue of liberty leads straight to the huge "Hotel des Thermes", an imposing building from the colonial history of the town.

Day - 6 Antsirabe to Ranomafana

On the sixth day of the trip, you will first have the opportunity to visit an exciting reforestation project. Orange trees are cultivated in this project to reforestation projects. Day - 7 Ranomafana National Park

Ranomafana National Park is the destination of your trip through Madagascar on this day. The park covers more than 40,000 hectares and is located about 1,300 meters above sea level. Numerous different species of lemurs, insects, birds, frogs and reptiles are at home in the mountain forest and with a bit of luck you will get to see some particularly spectacular specimens and get them in front of your camera lens. The concrete arrangement of the day in Ranomafana National Park depends on your individual wishes and constitution.

Day - 8 Ranomafana to Manakara

After the rainforest, we continue through the peculiar hilly landscape near Irondro until we can sniff sea air in the afternoon: Palm trees and the typical houses on stilts indicate the proximity of the rainy east coast, then in Manakara we see the Indian Ocean rolling onto the wide beaches of the city for the first time.

After barely three hours we catch sight of palm trees and the blue, endless expanse of the Indian Ocean. In the coastal town of Manakara we visit the very busy market for the first time, here the famous pepper from Madagascar and also other spices produced there such as cinnamon, cloves, turmeric and of course first-class vanilla can be bought cheaply.

Day - 9 Manakara and surroundings

After breakfast we drive north along the "Pangalan Canal"which, by the way, with an original length of over 600 km, is the longest man-made canal in the world. On a headland, away from all the usual tours, there is a place where the canal and the roaring Indian Ocean meet. Home to numerous free-ranging lemurs, you will be surrounded by them as long as there is hope of catching bananas and other tidbits.

Day - 10 Manakara to Ambalavao

Continue through a very varied landscape that leads through the different vegetation zones up to the highlands.

The ride passes through many small villages whose colors vary from red earth color to bright red with green background. The landscape is lush green, the rice fields are a mosaic of all possible shades of green in the mirror of countless ponds.

After Fianarantsoa, the drive continues south on the well paved road. Huge granite boulders, increasingly barren red laterite soil and sparse grasses can be seen, the landscape changes dramatically when you get up to the pass with the beautiful viewpoint. From there you can see far down into the valley of Ambalavao which lies peacefully between the high mountains. The drive is now full of curves down the valley, grapevines appear on the left and right of the road and the landscape is surrounded by a truly unique mountain scenario.

Day - 11 Anja Park to Isalo

The eleventh day begins with a hike to a private reserve called Anja Park. This reserve is about three hectares in size and is home to numerous calicoes, which are already waiting for your visit with their fun-loving nature. In addition, in Anja Park you can also see numerous reptiles as well as burial caves and spiritual gathering places of the tribe of the Betsileo discover. Afterwards we will continue our journey by car and head south again. Towards afternoon our arrival in Ranohira is already expected. This stop will take us to the Isalo National Parkwhich, however, is our destination only the next day. First of all, a comfortable overnight stay at the hotel "La Reine d'Isalo".

Day - 12 Isalo and surroundings

On this day you will go to one of the most famous national parks in Madagascar, Isalo National Park. This is a huge mountain massif where granite and sandstone sculptures alternate with waterfalls and tropical nature.

The entire national park covers more than 80,000 hectares of land and offers you maximum scenic variety.

Amidst the barren and mineral landscape there are magnificent natural pools and waterfalls surrounded by lush tropical nature.

This completely overpriced park can be replaced after the hike in the area surrounding the lodge, so by the private area of the lodge, identical landscape to enjoy in peace. Numerous activities such as horseback riding are also offered directly on site.

The level of difficulty and also the length of the tour through the park will be adapted to your personal wishes as well as to your conditional requirements. After the exciting day trip follows an overnight stay in the hotel "La Reine d'Isalo".

Day - 13 Isalo to Ifaty

On this day of your journey through Madagascar, you will say goodbye to the Isalo Mountains and head even further south by car. On the way there are several possibilities for excursions: The Saphirmine from Ilakaka, the Zombitse Vohibasia National Park or the huge Baobab trees are only three possible examples. You will leave Tulear behind and then drive directly to Ifaty. The overnight stay will be at the Belladonna Hotel.

Days 14 and 15 Ifaty and surroundings

Opportunity to relax from the exertions of the trip on the beach, snorkel/dive, take a boat ride or explore the thorn forests and vegetation under the Tropic of Capricorn.

The hinterland also has a variety of attractions to offer: The famous "Reniala Reserve offers insights into the flora and fauna of the south, in the "Village des Tortues" you can see an interesting breeding - and protection program for the rare rays - and spider turtles. Also the cuisine here is of course "maritime", friends of fish - and seafood come here fully at your expense.

Day 16 From Ifaty to Sarondrano

After breakfast, we head south on the sandy dirt road to Tulear, the large port city on the Mozambique Channel. City visit, internet and shopping after the long drive through remote areas. Before approaching the headland of Sarondrano, which stretches out between sand dunes and mangrove forests in the turquoise-blue Lagon, it becomes exciting. Between Tulear and Saint Augustin is one of the most pleasant guesthouses that I know on this island, "Résidence Eden Lodge" is still an insider tip but it will soon get around and there is very little accommodation.

Days 16 to 19 Sarondrano and surroundings

A wide variety of visits and activities are offered daily, competent and local guides are available and planning & logistics are taken care of immediately under the best possible conditions. Outrigger pirogues, motorboat, off-road vehicles, visits to a huge protected area and even paragliding are available. Those who just want to relax can enjoy the over 32 ° warm sea and the unadulterated sunshine.

Day - 19 Tulear to Antananarivo (domestic flight)

This day is characterized by the mood of departure: After the relaxing days in Ifaty, you will return to Tulear and from there take the plane directly to the capital Antananarivo. Depending on the time of day, you can then explore the surrounding area, otherwise you will go directly to the Hotel Villa Sybille or to an exceptional restaurant with excellent dining options.

Day 20 Antananarivo or flight to Sainte Marie

From this day there is the possibility to either extend the trip for 10 days and fly to the island of Sainte Marie with a domestic flight (not included, will be organized on request).

If the trip ends here, a driver and the Villa Sibylle are at your disposal as day use.
