unfortunately we could not meet in person this year. And unfortunately our Madagascar trip had to be cancelled at very short notice.
But one thing at a time: I booked a car together with a driver through Klaus for the Easter vacations 2017, nothing more. The further course of the trip should be decided - as we actually always do - day by day at breakfast. We, that is my wife and I and our two 5- and 8-year-old children.
The suitcases were already packed, the cab to the Munich airport already ordered, the boarding passes already printed out, but when the alarm clock rang on the day of arrival, the fever thermometer already showed almost 40 degrees for me. As much as we had been looking forward to Madagascar, there was not much to weigh. The trip had to be cancelled. A little later, a doctor diagnosed me with influenza, the "real" flu. So the decision to cancel was the right one. Influenza is not something to joke about and traveling is not even a possibility.
The disappointment was now large and also the financial damage very annoying. I have never taken out travel cancellation insurance (in the long term, you pay on average, or what else do they earn their money with?) So also the flight costs for four people plus the prepaid rent for the car and the salary for the driver were gone.
I thought. But then Klaus offered to refund the money completely. There were no concrete agreements for this case, no written contract, no general terms and conditions or anything like that. In any case, I had already chalked the money up to "bad luck" for me and would never have asked Klaus about it. But he offered me the refund without being asked. To the last cent. Very, very fair. I wanted to get rid of that here in the guestbook.
If anyone is still interested in how the story (probably) will continue: We want to make up the trip Easter 2018, and I have now agreed with Klaus that he keeps the money as a Be- or deposit for the next attempt. Runs with him everything very unbureaucratic, very fair! By the way, a considerable part of the flight costs should also be returned. What many travelers do not know: Many surcharges such as airport fees and certain taxes must refund the airline even without travel cancellation insurance if the passenger does not take the flight, because in this case the airline itself is also not burdened with these costs.
We are already looking forward to making up for the unfortunate missed trip next year!

That was absolutely the right decision, because your driver ADAFI was not only a very careful and nevertheless fast driver, but has also supported us with words and deeds. He has even shown surprisingly good knowledge in the local flora and fauna, which went far beyond the normal level! Also the car was absolutely TOP! Problems with travel changes due to the cyclone, we were able to solve together quickly and we have also otherwise felt very comfortable and befriended. Adafi's humor also contributed to an extremely pleasant atmosphere, so we could cover the long and sometimes stressful long distances relaxed. Other highlights for us were the parks we visited. We especially liked the Anja Park and the Lemur Forest Camp. There we could observe the different species of lemurs in their natural habitats.
You planned our vacation well and everything worked out, which, as we have often seen, is not a matter of course in Madagascar. The accommodations and the food were very good. Great praise also goes to our driver Adafi, who always brought us safely through the not always well maintained road network.

Through you, Klaus, as a planning and logistics genius, who fulfills every wish, no matter how small, and through you, Nicole, as a doer, for whom nothing is impossible, we got to know Madagascar with all its facets.
Of course, we have covered many kilometers with the coach, which sometimes seemed quite exhausting, but even the one long 12-hour bus ride on December 30 was entertaining, because you, as on the whole trip, always had surprises in store for us: the visit of remote villages or small workshops with great ingenuity, hikes in beautiful unusual landscapes and parks, the hustle and bustle on the colorful markets, the nights in special lodges. There are many more incredibly intense experiences that made this trip unforgettably beautiful for us!
Thanks also to the great group (Monika, Petzo, Inge, Reini, Margit, Jochen, Melitta, Willi) that came together for the New Year's trip from 27.12.16 to 18.01.17 and developed into a homogeneous and good-humored group. It was wonderful with you!

It was really nice with which joy and cordiality Aina brought us closer to the country. Patient, patient, most patient, Aina! From the beginning we understood each other very well, he brought us with his sensitive way the fantastic country with its nature and especially the friendly people closer. Always Aina knew interesting things to tell and could give us a lot of knowledge about the way of life in Madagascar, hardly a question or a wish of us remained unfulfilled. We were in wonderful places, had great hotels, very nice experiences and two super nice guides, Hery and Andry. We would like to say a special thank you to Hery, who drove us over 1200 km perfectly through the east and the south. He had the organization firmly under control and through his very good English and immense knowledge brought the culture and way of life of the Malagasy many times closer. Honestly, we don't know the best words to thank you. You really made our honeymoon in July something very special! Already the first contact via the homepage was really nice and we felt totally comfortable and well cared for from the first moment.
The trip you put together for us was simply fantastic. We saw so many beautiful spots of this fascinating country and learned a lot about it from you on the tour. It was really nice to travel with you. But not only the individual stops were great, also the hotels you chose were really great! Great rooms, incredible panoramic views, great service and fantastic food. Simply perfect! And you also gave us a few nice surprises. We were totally happy about that!
Thank you again for taking care of our luggage problem. Air France had unfortunately left our luggage in Paris - but you have taken care of it from the first moment.
Please also send our regards to Adafi and Aina and thank you again for the good support and the super nice contact. They are really two great guides and drivers.

First of all, we have to state that we have always organized our trips ourselves so far. We usually book only the outward and return flight and everything else directly on site itself.
So it was also planned for our trip to Madagascar - however, our more intensive research on the Internet and travel guides shortly before departure showed that a progress on Madagascar is not as simple - as we had actually thought and imagined.
The day before our departure we had contacted Klaus and Nicole and we received an answer immediately. We had also contacted other providers - but none could be helpful to us at such short notice. After a short mail exchange and on recommendation of Klaus - we decided to book a flight directly to Antananarivo. Actually, the start of our trip in Madagascar was planned from Mahajanga. Klaus and Nicole picked us up directly from the airport and welcomed us warmly. With a super dinner we had then determined the tour. Since Klaus has lived in the country for almost 2 decades and knows it like the back of his hand, thus also the climate and weather conditions (which are very different from region to region - because 5 climate zones) and has excellent contacts, we followed his recommendations and have made a 1000 km tour to the south to Toulear and back. Klaus had made the hotel reservations the same evening - which were located at impressive spots. And then we started the next day around 9:00 🙂 Equally recommendable was our guide Hery. He speaks very good English. Knows country and people - flora and fauna and is very very funny and accommodating.
We could write much more but in the end we have found that this way of traveling in Madagascar is the best and with Klaus and Nicole (which complement each other super) you have TOP contact and travel planner on the spot. They book you an all-round carefree package, individually tailored to your own wishes and ideas! You can enjoy the country in a relaxed way and with a local guide you get to know regions and people more intensively.
Conclusion: To organize a trip in Madagascar on your own and to book everything yourself is extremely difficult, time-consuming and is associated with huge stumbling blocks.
We thank you for the warm hospitality and the last minute support and organization! We can only warmly recommend you!!! In the end it was the best thing that could happen to us! Soon it will be 1 year since our Madagascar adventure and still we like to think back to the many great experiences, the lovely people we met and the extraordinary nature.
Even though we are very experienced travelers and at the beginning it was hard for us to accept to take a driver and to decide the route more or less in advance, it was definitely the right decision and everything was so super organized by you.
Aina, who met us at the airport, was immediately sympathetic to us and has become a valued companion and friend during this time. Without him the trip would not have been the same: He was always flexible, helpful and told us an enormous amount about the country and its people and taught us a phrase or two in Gasy. We had a lot of fun together.
We also had a great time with Gege and his troop, who accompanied us up Peak Boby in Andringitra National Park. We hope he has recovered from our hiking pace in the meantime J We laughed a lot, sang and danced around the campfire. No idea how to spell it, but the songs "Ombla bey" and "Schipclodimena" are still ringing in our ears. Poor Aina had to listen to our chanting over and over again for the rest of our trip, stopping at the next bush for every " Ulumbelu tsi akuhu "J.
In the Residence Eden Lodge we found a small paradise in a familiar atmosphere, from which we did not want to leave. The trip on the RN 7 was a unique experience, not least because of the kind people who crossed our path.

I have already sent my personal greetings including the due thanks together with my travel companion Christian by means of an own mail to Klaus with family and team.
I would like to inform the readers of the guestbook that it makes absolutely sense to entrust yourself to a trustworthy and experienced organizer, if you want to experience as much as possible or as intensively as possible of the "sixth continent" in a short time. Because Madagascar is not only geologically, biologically and culturally a separate continent, but also because of its size. In addition, the road conditions and traffic connections do not facilitate an individual progress. If you want to get to know the country and its people more closely and safely, have little time to do so and know neither the Madegassian language nor enough French, and would also like to minimize the actual greatest risk when traveling in this way - I'm not talking about robberies but traffic accidents - then you should definitely contact Klaus and his team in the case of this fascinating island.
No matter what you hope to find on Madagascar, Klaus can give you advice and will do his best to find a way.
I was particularly impressed on the tour proposed by him, the visit to some villages in the highlands and on the east and west coast with direct contact with the extremely friendly people there. In addition, we visited mines, rovas, small - not overcrowded and financially not overpriced - national parks, a rum distillery and so on. - always rounded off in the evening with perfect hotels and lodges. No matter if the overnight stay was in a rustic jungle camp, in a 5 star lodge in the middle of a canyon or a colonial bungalow on the beach: service and accommodation were always excellent. However, one should never forget that one is in one of the poorest countries in the world and also encounters a different mentality, which leads to differences in the standard of accommodation and services that one may be used to at home. Finally one makes a journey also therefore, in order to experience evenly different?
Klaus offers in Antananarivo at the beginning and at the end of a round trip always his private domicile - which is also equipped with comfortable bungalows - as accommodation. You can start and end your trip there in a pleasant atmosphere: together with him and his family (hello Nicole!).
Klaus speaks French and Madegassian, has lived on the island for 18 years, and by his own admission has still not seen and experienced everything Madagascar has to offer! We have been able to experience him as a perfect mediator between us as visitors and the locals, who is highly appreciated by the Madegasses themselves and who employs an outstanding team of drivers and guides (I would especially like to highlight Adaffi and Anja - best regards from Austria!!!).
Without exaggeration I may claim that we were able to experience Madagascar so intensively only because of the service of Klaus and his team.
In this sense, I can only express the unrestricted recommendation for anyone who wants to visit Madagascar: "Klaus is the man with the plan!"

After three weeks in Madagascar, everyday life has caught up with us again. We are still living off the incredible impressions we brought back with us. Together with Leonid, our perfect driver, who picked us up at the airport and accompanied us until the last day, Dauphin, our German-speaking guide from the rainforest, who knowledgeably explained plants, animals and customs of the population, we were a great team in the four-wheel drive car. You combined the few places I had given you to an eventful trip with well-chosen accommodations, from the Kirindy Lodge in the simplest version to the Isalo Rock Lodge with 4 star standard. The adventurous drive to Bekopaka through several mud holes was an experience in itself, thanks to Leonid who has his car perfectly under control. The trekking tour in Andrigitra NP was well organized by our guide Gege (?), the two nights in the tent with evening campfire in the hut are unforgettable, as well as the two evenings in the fantastically located Tsarasoa Lodge with spontaneous musical accompaniment. In Isalo NP we followed Klaus' tip and explored the area from Isalo Rock Lodge, saving us the official park entrance fee. We did not regret it, the region around the lodge, including the small village, is gigantic. Under these impressions we forgot to book our return flight from Toliara to Tana in time. No problem for Klaus, he organized the return trip with Leonid and an overnight stay in Antsirabe at short notice. You have made a journey possible for us that was like leafing through a big picture book, opening up new landscapes again and again and providing breathtaking insights. Thank you both very much! We appreciate very much how well you were able to read out from our mail exchange what was important to us and then translated that into the planning of a great three-week trip. The suggested rhythm of staying and driving was really well done. Initially, I was rather skeptical to follow the RN 7 with a rental car and a driver, because we, as Sahara experienced self-drivers, like rough terrain a lot and actually prefer to move autonomously. But it was good. Very good, in fact. As tragic as it is for the country's population that the central transport axes are not better maintained, we enjoyed the not-too-fast progress. Leonid is a prudent and very attentive driver who was able to respond well to our requests. Since we were the first ones he was touring with all by himself, information sometimes came very spontaneously. Or not. But Leonid certainly has the potential to be an excellent guide. His friendly and unobtrusive manner will surely be enjoyed by other Vazahas.
Our highlights? Difficult to say. There were so many. Maybe the trek up Bic Boby in Andringitra Park with the nights in the tent and Gege's excellent cooking, the 250 pirogues with their fishermen right next to the Hotel Belle Vue in Ifaty, the river trip on the Canal des Pangalanes during a terrific cloudburst. Most likely we will come again. We are impressed and have become very fond of the country and people.
