About the trip

Rent a motorcycle in Madagascar

The pilot who gets off the plane can have a motorcycle delivered to him as soon as he arrives at the airport or, if he prefers, he can take an internal flight to Diego in the north or to Tulear in the south, where he will find what he had booked on the spot.

From a single rental to a tour with complete logistics and with technical support; there is something for everyone. A motorcycle in Madagascar is possible and it is a cheap option compared with a car rental + driver but it is also associated with a certain risk and you should be aware of this in any case, especially when renting to drive yourself without local accompaniment.

Here, except for a few paved roads, the rest of the country quickly becomes impassable for almost half of the year. It's not that it really rains more than the rest of Africa, but there are more rivers and more mountains and, above all, less distance between the peaks and the beaches.

With each rainy season the river levels rise and the countless fords turn into muddy rivers. It is important to contact us in advance so that we can give valuable and free advice already during the rough planning.

One should always expect to have patience to be able to take buffer days if necessary. So driving alone is not the best option, but an asphalt variant down to Tulear, the terminus of Hochlandroute , which connects the capital with the beach resorts in the south offers by far the best opportunities!

The travel days in detail

The Trial Bikes - Hartford 200 VR

This Hartford 200VR is a prime example of a simple motorcycle transport vehicle, and there's nothing wrong with that. This unpretentious little motorcycle uses a proven four-stroke engine concept, very similar to an old Honda CD200 from the 80's, and reaches a speed of about 110 km/h throughout the day. You'll notice that this motorcycle has very low fuel consumption and has a range of well over 200km on a full 9 liter tank. It has front and rear disc brakes, respectable handling for an old-fashioned chassis design, and a very comfortable saddle. Depending on the rental period 55€ per day or less for long term rental.

The Trial Bikes - Hero Dawn 150

This Hero is built in India, it is very robust and consumes only about 2 liters of fuel per 100km. The Hero 150 is equipped with a tubular chassis of the double cradle frame type, which makes it a lightweight in every respect. The motorcycle is equipped with a wide seat that ensures comfort and easy riding posture. Other features include nice palm grips, matching footpegs, raised handlebars and a molded engine tank. In the front the motorcycle is equipped with hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers and in the rear with a swingarm with 2-stage adjustable hydraulic shock absorber. The HF Dawn 150cc has a wheelbase of 1235mm and a high ground clearance of 165mm. 50€ / day

The Trial Bikes - Honda 250 XRE (2011)

The motorcycle has become an excellent choice for those adventures that want to travel on / off-road routes and also rely on the recognition, reliability and reputation that Honda Motor Company has earned over the years in worldwide. Designed as a dual-sport motorcycle, the XRE 250 delivers remarkable engine performance and provides an average cruising speed between 85 km/h - 90 km/h in the mid-range without compromising either the durability of the motorcycle, fuel consumption or rider comfort. 80€ per day

The Trial Bikes - SUZUKI 350 DR-E

The Suzuki DR350 is a 350cc single-cylinder dual-sport motorcycle that was produced until 2001. It has a 349 cubic inch single-cylinder overhead-cocker (OHC) with the Suzuki Advanced Cooling System (SACS), dry sump lubrication, 6-speed transmission, 21-inch front wheel and 18-inch rear wheel. 80€ per day

The Trial Bikes - Yamaha 600 XTE

A proven classic, a tractor that works its way up any terrain. 90€ per day

The Trial Bikes - HONDA 650 TRANSALP

A reliable partner for the trip, comfortable motorcycle with not exactly sporty performance but for Madagascar a suitable motorcycle. 95€ per day

The Trial Bikes - Royal Enfield Himalayan

First of all, the tangible things: The Royal Enfield Himalayan, this amazingly well-functioning, visually refreshingly idiosyncratic touring enduro is available.

110€/day

Honda Ace 125

Small motorcycle for city traffic or for cheap tours of Madagascar, very low fuel consumption. 40€/day

The Trial bikes-HONDA AFRICA TWIN 750

The ideal touring motorcycle for Madagascar, the Africa Twin are equipped with top case and side panniers on request. 110€ per day

The Enduro bikes-YAMAHA WRF 250 (2014)

The pinnacle of reliable and powerful dual-purpose motorcycles that continue the adventure when the road ends and the trail begins. 100 per day

The Enduro bikes -KAWASAKI 450 KLXR (2011)

A really great series chassis. The fork swallows forearm-thick branches like nothing. The shock builds traction like no other. On a really heavy stony-muddy driveway where other top pilots tried to get ahead, I had to brake decently to still catch the curve on the way out. 110€ per day

The Enduro Bikes - KTM 350 EXCF (2019)

The KTM 350 EXC-F offers a successful overall package that will please 4-stroke fans. The powerful unit convinces with clean power, even if the KTM has to be held at high revs and the engine run is a bit rough. In terms of handling, it seems comfortable but a bit nervous, which initially lacks confidence in the machine. The brakes, on the other hand, are easy to control. 180€ per day

The Enduro Bikes - KTM 450 EXCF (2019)

The KTM 450 EXC-F is the most powerful enduro bike in the E2 class and makes full use of the displacement limit. It was designed with low weight, a robust and well-balanced chassis and an outstanding engine. This high-tech SOHC (single overhead camshaft) engine with a single cylinder and 4-stroke technology is the perfect choice for any rider who wants to get to the top. Combined with first-class agility based on a further improved chassis, the KTM 450 EXC-F is sure to give the competition a run for their money for a long time to come. 180€ per day

Help

FOR MADAGASCAR

After 10 months of total inactivity, self-employed people in the tourism industry in Madagascar are completely without income. There is no opening of the borders in sight in Madagascar and we are at the beginning of the rainy season, which is the low season, even in normal times. I have started a fundraiser for the guides and drivers I know well. From this money we will buy rice and other essentials and distribute them regularly, if possible, until the resumption of travel activities in April 2021 at the earliest. My special thanks to those who have already donated. I will start buying rice tomorrow and will begin distributing it this week.
