Ambohijanahary

The special reserve called Ambohijanahary is located at an altitude of up to 1,800 meters and is on the western border to the central plateau of the country Madagascar positioned. More precisely, Ambohijanahary is located on the road that leads from Tsiroanomandidy to Maintirano and is thus not far from the Bongolava Mountains removed. The reserve was Founded at the end of the 1950s and spans an area of almost 250 square kilometers.

In terms of scenery, Ambohijanahary offers a amazing diversity and is home to, among other things, some of the hardwood forests that are now so rare in Madagascar. Savannah, bamboo, rocky landscapes and water bodies can also be discovered in the Ambohijanahary Special Reserve. However, this reserve is very Exposed to difficult climatic conditions and the changes in the climate are taking their toll. Thus, the dry seasons are expanding more and more, while at the same time the number of rainy days is decreasing almost dramatically. The waters in the Ambohijanahary reserve dry up almost completely during the long dry periods, which also has a significant effect on the wildlife in the protected area. Ambohijanahary is home to around 78 species mammals, numerous endemic bird species, amphibians and reptiles, which you can easily observe during a visit to this reserve. Also a large part of the Sakalava ethnic population group is at home in Ambohijanahary. They live primarily from cattle breeding, beekeeping and fishing In addition, they also grow rice and corn in the areas where this is possible

Help

FOR MADAGASCAR

After 10 months of total inactivity, self-employed people in the tourism industry in Madagascar are completely without income. There is no opening of the borders in sight in Madagascar and we are at the beginning of the rainy season, which is the low season, even in normal times. I have started a fundraiser for the guides and drivers I know well. From this money we will buy rice and other essentials and distribute them regularly, if possible, until the resumption of travel activities in April 2021 at the earliest. My special thanks to those who have already donated. I will start buying rice tomorrow and will begin distributing it this week.
