Anjanaharibe Sud

The special reserve with the name Anjanaharibe Sud lies near the Marojejy National Park and covers an area of only about 32 square kilometers.fascinating mountain cloud forest with an almost unlimited species richness. Anjanaharibe Sud has been managed as a special reserve since the end of the 1950s, but it was not until 2004 that ANGAP took over the complete management of the reserve. Anjanaharibe Sud is classified as a special reserve. relatively difficult to access, since the reserve is located at an altitude between 500 and 2,064 meters. These different altitudes ensure that in the reserve Anjanaharibe Sud. many different ecosystems gather next to each other, so to speak, in the smallest possible space. Thus, in this protected zone some of the last intact medium and high primary rainforests discover the entire island of Madagascar. For your Madagascar vacation a side trip to this unique natural paradise can be a recommendable experience. This is also due to the fact that in the reserve Anjanaharibe Sud again and again still new animal and plant species can be discovered. This is an inspiring incentive not only for proven researchers. Lemurs in particular feel at home in Anjanaharibe Sud, even though some of them are now among the most endangered species on the island. In total twelve classified species of lemurs there are in Anjanaharibe Sud. The silk sifakas are probably one of the most uplifting sights, even though this species of lemur is particularly strongly threatened with extinction is. The IUCN calculates that a total of only about 250 animals of this species can still be found on our planet.

Anjanaharibe Sud

Besides the different lemurs also knows the Bird life in Anjanaharibe Sud Around 120 different bird species can be observed in this reserve. Among them the extremely rare Madagascar serpent eagles, red owls or ground rollers. Amphibians and reptiles are also represented with more than 90 different species. Especially some of the frogs and also the chameleons can only be discovered in Anjanaharibe Sud, because they are so perfectly adapted to their life in the biotope there that even small changes could lead to their extinction. In addition to the amazingly diverse fauna that is at home in Anjanaharibe Sud, also the stunning flora in this special reserve. Various precious woods such as rosewood, rosewood or ebony can be discovered in Anjanaharibe Sud just like 300 different species of ferns and 40 species of palms. Particularly impressive, however, is the Takhtajania. This is a small tree with extremely aromatic leaves, apparently native to Madagascar for more than 120 million years. Even though Anjanaharibe Sud is a special nature reserve that is under special protection, the Dangers for the plants and animalswho live here are still large and partly life-threatening. Especially illegal hunters and poachers do not stop at the borders of the reserve. Lemurs are hunted mainly for their meat, other people have it on the rare precious woods apart. Especially the latter is still growing into an ever-increasing problem, as illegal logging has now reached even the most remote and already protected areas of Madagascar.

Help

FOR MADAGASCAR

After 10 months of total inactivity, self-employed people in the tourism industry in Madagascar are completely without income. There is no opening of the borders in sight in Madagascar and we are at the beginning of the rainy season, which is the low season, even in normal times. I have started a fundraiser for the guides and drivers I know well. From this money we will buy rice and other essentials and distribute them regularly, if possible, until the resumption of travel activities in April 2021 at the earliest. My special thanks to those who have already donated. I will start buying rice tomorrow and will begin distributing it this week.
