About the trip

This very varied and scenic tour takes you from Antananarivo to Andasibe in the rainforest and then across the highlands, the mountain cloud forest in Ranomafana, the mountains near Ambalavao, the rugged mineral landscapes of the Isalo Massif, to the Mozambique Channel where a few days of relaxation in a beautiful lodge are announced.

As an ornithological tour it is accompanied by local specialists in the national parks and always focused on ornithology. The list of bird species and observation area is at the end of this offer.

Many extensions and connecting tours are possible, the offers are only examples of possibilities that can still be personally adapted to the individual expectations of the guests upon request.

The travel days in detail

Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo

The first day is initially dedicated to your arrival in Madagascar. We will pick you up after your landing at the airport Ivato in the Madagascan capital Antanarivo and bring you to your place of accommodation in Villa Sibylle. If you have any food or beverage requests for your arrival, it is best to let us know in advance so we can take care of them.

Day 2 Antananarivo to Andasibe

Early in the morning you will drive east on the winding and well-maintained RN 2. On the way you will have the opportunity to visit the famous private reserve "MadagascarExotique" of the famous explorer Andre Pereyras, where an unimagined variety of reptiles, amphibians and - in a nearby forest area - lemurs pose without shyness in front of the camera. Moramanga is the next stop before heading to the nearby Analamazoatra area. Near the national park of Andasibe you will take up quarters and already have the opportunity to make the first excursions into the rainforest, night hikes are also feasible from the lodge.Overnight stay in the hotel "Eulophiella Lodge or equivalent".

Day 3 - Andasibe / Mitsinjo

After breakfast we will head towards Andasibe National Park for bird watching. We will stop at the Mangoro River where we will look for the Madagascar Pratincole. Afterwards, we will keep an eye out for the following birds in Mitsinjo Reserve: Red-breasted Coua, Collared Nightjar and Crested Coua.We will also be on the lookout for Indri, the largest lemurs in Madagascar, which are also found in this forest. Before dinner, we will take a guided night hike to look for Long-eared Owl, Madagascar Scops Owl, Goodman's Mouse Lemur, Pygmy Lemur and Eastern Woolly Lemur. Various species of chameleon and tree frog can also be seen.Night walks in the rainforest are possible from the lodge.Overnight at the hotel " Eulophiella Lodge ".

Day 4 - From Andasibe to Antsirabe

On the fourth day of your  Journey through MadagascarYou will travel from Andasibe via the capital Antananarivo to Antsirabe. The journey takes you first through the colorful hustle and bustle of the suburbs the capital and then through Behenjy and Ambatolampy. In one of these two places you will have a lunch break and you can strengthen yourself in one of the restaurants there. Afterwards you will continue to Antsirabe, a important business location in Madagascar. The distance from Antananarivo to Antsirabe is about 170 kilometers and is lined with exciting landscapes. Antsirabe itself inspires with its attractive colonial villas and its European look. The overnight stay is in the hotel Chambres du Voyageur in whose garden, with a little luck, numerous chameleons and even ray turtles can be discovered.

Day 5- Drive from Antsirabe to Ranomafana

On the fifth day of the trip you will first have the opportunity to enjoy a exciting reforestation project to visit. Orange trees are cultivated in this project for reforestation purposes. Day 8 - Von Ambalavao to Ranohira to Isalo National Park

The eighth day begins with a Hike to a private reserve with the name Anja Park. After 10 months of total inactivity, self-employed people in the tourism industry in Madagascar are completely without income. There is no opening of the borders in sight in Madagascar and we are at the beginning of the rainy season, which is the low season, even in normal times.
