About the trip

This very varied and scenic tour takes you from Antananarivo to Andasibe in the rainforest and then across the highlands, the mountain cloud forest in Ranomafana, the mountains near Ambalavao, the rugged mineral landscapes of the Isalo Massif, to the Mozambique Channel where a few days in the Tsimanampesotse National Park are announced.

As an ornithological tour, it is accompanied by local specialists in the national parks and always focused on ornithology.

Many extensions and connecting tours are possible, the offers are only examples of possibilities that can still be personally adapted to the individual expectations of the guests upon request.

The travel days in detail

Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo

The first day is initially dedicated to your arrival in Madagascar. We will pick you up after your landing at the airport Ivato in the Madagascan capital Antanarivo and bring you to your place of accommodation in Villa Sibylle. If you have any food or beverage requests for your arrival, it is best to let us know in advance so we can take care of them.

Day 2 Antananarivo to Andasibe

Early in the morning you will drive east on the winding and well-maintained RN 2. On the way you will have the opportunity to visit the famous private reserve "MadagascarExotique" of the famous explorer Andre Pereyras, where an unimagined variety of reptiles, amphibians and - in a nearby forest area - lemurs pose without shyness in front of the camera. Moramanga is the next stop before heading to the nearby Analamazoatra area. Day 3 - Andasibe / Mitsinjo

After breakfast we will head towards Andasibe National Park for bird watching. We will stop at the Mangoro River where we will look for the Madagascar Pratincole. Afterwards, we will keep an eye out for the following birds in Mitsinjo Reserve: Red-breasted Coua, Collared Nightjar and Crested Coua.We will also be on the lookout for Indri, the largest lemurs in Madagascar, which are also found in this forest. Before dinner, we will take a guided night hike to look for Long-eared Owl, Madagascar Scops Owl, Goodman's Mouse Lemur, Pygmy Lemur and Eastern Woolly Lemur. Day 4: Excursion to Andasibe National Park

Day 5: The road takes you from Andasibe to Antsirabe

Day 6 - From Antsirabe to Ranomafana

The last stop on today's schedule is Ranomafana, a town about 390 kilometers south of Antananarivo. We leave Antsirabe, then we continue until we reach Ambositra after a winding drive. After that the landscape changes again in a very exciting way, we see trees and lush vegetation. Day 7 and 8: Excursion to the impressive Ranomafana National Park

Day 9: Continue to Isalo National Park

Day 11: Zombitse National Park and the onward journey to Ifaty

Day 13: Continuing to Anakao and Ambola

Today you can expect a very special highlight, because one of the oldest and at the same time also the least known national parks on Madagascar awaits you: the Tsimanampesotse National Park. Up to 90 percent of the animals and plants living here can only be found in Madagascar and the Tsimanampesotse National Park was already founded in 1927. On the more than 40,000 hectares live more than 112 different bird species and incidentally some lemurs as well as about 39 different reptile species. In addition, the Tsimanampesotse National Park is home to a huge limestone plateau as well as a beautifully situated lake.
