Madagascar's most biodiverse integral reserve<\/h3>\n

That with 22.000 hectares<\/strong> rather small integral reserve forms the southern part of the National Park of the same name<\/a> at East of the island.<\/strong> In total, the protected area covers 643 km2<\/sup>of which a good two-thirds are designated as national parks. Madagascar is known for its incredible biodiversity. Probably the most vivid example of the High biodiversity<\/strong> is the Zahamena National Park. More than 500 tree species, 60 different orchids and a good 20 palm species provide an optimal habitat for the 45 mammal species native here. 13 species of lemurs, including the highly endangered reed lemurs of Lake Alaotra, make their home in the protected area. Zahamena is also the largest refuge for native bird species. A total of 112 different birds live in Zahamena, 67 of which are native only to Madagascar.
