The Ambohitantely Special Reserve is relatively small compared to many other protected areas and includes only a Base area of 56 square kilometers<\/strong>. Ambohitantely is located about 130 kilometers northwest of Tana and is just over 30 kilometers from Ankazobe. The area was founded at the beginning of the 19080s<\/strong> and is basically easy to reach all year round. If you start in Anatananarivo, you need a well four-hour car ride<\/strong>before you reach the special reserve. Between September and October<\/strong> is the most recommended time to visit Ambohitantely, as temperatures are pleasantly mild during these months, even at night, inviting you to spend the night in a camp. Ambohitantely is excellent for trekking<\/strong> and thanks to the scenic diversity offers very many visual highlights. The easiest and most uncomplicated hikes lead you around the Botanical garden<\/strong>. There you can admire various animals, palm trees and orchids alike. Other tours, on the other hand, will take you to a cave that is home to many bats or to a waterfall that will give you the opportunity to take a natural and refreshing bath.
