From Antsirabe the trip goes south

The start of this small, but extremely fine tour or this section of the route is in Antsirabe, from where you move further south. The RN 7 presents itself here with numerous curves and loops and thus allows you a ingenious view on the surrounding environment. Rice fields, eucalyptus and also pine forests line its path, because the area is fertile and offers fruits and numerous other natural products almost in abundance. But not only the edible natural products are high on the popularity scale in this region: Also the Mineral resources of the surroundings are by no means to be disregarded: Numerous semi-precious stones can be found in this area, although it should be noted that many deposits have not even been developed yet.

A little further south, you will reach Mount Ibity, which is already known by many tour operators as a little insider tip applies. Especially the change in the population can be seen well here. While in the previous regions mainly the Merina lived, about 40 kilometers south of Antsirabe you reach the land of the Betsileo. You will surely meet numerous people in this region, who are mainly known for their colorful robes noticeable. The houses of the Betsileo are usually equipped with a small balcony and the agricultural skills of their inhabitants are recognizable everywhere. Let yourself be captured by the sight of the people living here: The hustle and bustle of the fields, villages decorated with flowers and women washing their clothes on the riverbanks - all this has an almost hypnotic attraction.

It goes to Ambositra

On this tour, Ambositra is the next point on your itinerary. Ambositra is considered to be the former capital of the Betsileo people and is located in a picturesque area. Often thin clouds of fog form around the small town, because it was built in a rather humid region on an imposing hill. Not only the Betsileo feel at home in Ambositra, because the small town is also famous for the Zafimaniry. The name of this people translated means something like "the children of the wishing" and the people are especially known for their Wood carving art famous. This art was from the UNESCO even to the world cultural heritage explained and fortunately you can buy the carvings in many stores and also street stalls. Rosewood, ebony and rosewood are the popular materials of the Zafimaniry. Of course, you are welcome to take a trip to the surrounding villages.

The Zafimaniry villages are worth a visit

If you want to get to know the Zafimaniry, the creators of the extraordinary wood carvings, a little better, you should make your way to the nearby villages of this small tribe. However, the way there is a bit arduous, because the roads running next to the RN 7 are often not much more than better moguls that promise little comfort during the journey. The main village of the Zafimaniry is Antoetra, but also the other villages, which however can only be reached on foot and with local accompaniment can be reached, are definitely worth a look. In these same villages you can see the Wood carving art of this people finally discover not only with the small figures, but also at the various houses of the village. Accordingly, photographic motifs are comprehensively provided.

If you want to go to the villages, however, make sure you have the right equipment and a experienced guide eighth. Antoetra is also the starting point to the other remote Zafimaniry villages: Ifasina, Ankidodo, Ambohimanariva, Ambatolampy, Faliarivo, Fempina, Tetazandrotra, Vohitrandrina, Antetezandrota and Sakairo, but you can only get there on foot and with a local escort. Especially in the winter months, it can get surprisingly chilly at night as well as during the day. Furthermore, most of the villages do not offer recommendable overnight accommodations, which is why the Taking a tent set seems to make sense. Help

FOR MADAGASCAR

After 10 months of total inactivity, self-employed people in the tourism industry in Madagascar are completely without income. There is no opening of the borders in sight in Madagascar and we are at the beginning of the rainy season, which is the low season, even in normal times. I have started a fundraiser for the guides and drivers I know well. From this money we will buy rice and other essentials and distribute them regularly, if possible, until the resumption of travel activities in April 2021 at the earliest. My special thanks to those who have already donated. I will start buying rice tomorrow and will begin distributing it this week.
