From Tulear the journey continues to Anakao or Ifaty

Discover dream beaches

After the varied and unforgettable adventures of the last few days, your journey towards southern Madagascar is slowly but surely coming to an end. With the arrival in the city of Tulear, the southernmost part of the island is actually already reached. Nevertheless, at least two more highlights await you here, which you will discover in your Madagascar vacation should not be allowed to pass by unseen.

You have either the option to choose between two possibilities or, if you still have enough time in your luggage, to go first to Anakao and then also after Ifaty to travel. After all, both places offer you all kinds of experiences, especially for Connoisseurs and friends of aquatic sports activities will be of great relevance. In the following, we will present both tour sections in detail, whereby we will, as always, take care not to reveal too much in some places. Of course you are free to explore the southern tip of Madagascar on your own. However, it will be a bit more relaxed and uncomplicated if we plan the exact tour itineraries for you. If you are interested in this possibility, we would be very happy to hear from you.

Explore Tulear and the surrounding area

When you arrive in Tulear, you might be a bit surprised at first. After all, this city seems absolutely average and not very attractive for tourists to be. This is exactly the case, because the capital of the province of the same name is for most people who do not live directly on site only a Stopover. From here it finally continues to the fantastic beaches of Ifaty, Sarondrano and Anakao.

However, all those who are interested in the world of plants can still get their money's worth near Tulear. There you will find the Arboretum d'Antsokay, which was developed by a Swiss botanist named Hermann Petignat was founded. After his previous professional career as a soldier and priest, the latter devoted himself to the extensive study of plants and studied in his arboretum more than 900 different plantswhich he planted and propagated for this purpose. Today the small arboretum is continued by the son of the botanist and offers also for all those who are less botanically interested, some revealing insights into the world of plants.

Once you have looked around Tulear and the surrounding area enough and are ready to continue your journey, you will first need to between two different tours decide. You can either go a little further south and reach Anakao or you can go a little further north and travel to Ifaty. We present you both variants in the following.

The southern variant - On the way to Sarondrano

If you drive a little further south from Tulear, after a few kilometers you will cross the Tropic of the scorpion and are then greeted by mangrove forests right by the sea. Particularly interesting: opposite the mangrove forests, dry thorn forests rise up, which provide an amazing contrast. We recommend the journey to Sarondrano, where you can relax for a few days in the most secluded hotel on the entire island. In Résidence Eden Lodge While first-class luxury is on the agenda, you can stay in cozy bungalows right on the beach and enjoy a little Robinson Crusoe feeling experience. The restaurant belonging to the hotel also provides you with gastronomic regional food, whose maritime touch is clearly noticeable.

Sarondrano is the ideal starting point for various undertakings: Discover for example St. Augustine, a former pirate hideout, which is located on a picturesque sandbank. Or meet the Vezo peoplethat sets sail with their pirogues and will also gladly take you over to the Fishing village Anakao drives. Alternatively, you could of course cross by motorboat, but this variant is not only completely overpriced, but also not quite ecologically sound. In addition, the Ride with the pirogues as much more stylish - another great experience to tell about after your vacation in Madagascar. Spend time having long drinks on the cozy beaches, go swimming, snorkeling or scuba diving, and let your hair down at the southernmost end of Madagascar, right under the Tropic of the scorpion dangle the soul in a unique way.

The northern variant - On the way to Ifaty

If you have already visited Anakao or if you want to start directly from Tulear again a little bit to the north, we suggest to you the two beach areas of Ifaty and Mangily especially to the heart. Sun-seeking beach vacationers and action-loving water sports enthusiasts are equally often seen here. Those who do not tolerate the blazing sun well are better off in Mangily or Ifaty than in Anakao. Ifaty and Mangily are located about 26 kilometers from Tulear and offer white sandy beaches as you usually only know them from postcards, a tropical heat, numerous coconut trees that characterize the idyllic picture and at the same time provide some shade, as well as numerous hotels and diving stations. But this does not at all mean that the Beaches of this paradise oasis would be overrun by tourists. On the contrary, if you are looking for some solitude and relaxation, you are guaranteed to find a place all to yourself. Especially for couples who want to spend their Honeymoon in Madagascar If you want to spend some time here, it's worth taking a detour. Besides the pure Relaxation on the beach as well as the aquatic amusement activities  we can use the Visit to the nearby Baobab forest especially recommend. One extended tour to the south of Madagascar usually finds your end here. Surely there would be also in the connection of this tour still different stations like for example the Western part of the splendor of the slopes to discover if you have time for it. However, these can be in a personal conversation evaluate much better. If you have your Let us plan your trip to Madagascar or still need a few insider tips, feel free to contact us. Help

FOR MADAGASCAR

After 10 months of total inactivity, self-employed people in the tourism industry in Madagascar are completely without income. There is no opening of the borders in sight in Madagascar and we are at the beginning of the rainy season, which is the low season, even in normal times. I have started a fundraiser for the guides and drivers I know well. From this money we will buy rice and other essentials and distribute them regularly, if possible, until the resumption of travel activities in April 2021 at the earliest. My special thanks to those who have already donated. I will start buying rice tomorrow and will begin distributing it this week.
